Roadbridge UK Wins Deal to Build Port of Cromarty Firth’s New £30M Hub

Posted on December 4, 2018

The hub – announced on Monday – is set to create 16 new full-time jobs through the construction and operation phases, most of which will be in the Highlands and Islands.

Building work will start in January with the construction of a 218m long quayside with steel piles, a new retaining wall and nine-acre land reclamation. Once completed by the spring of 2020 it will create around 140 new jobs.

Bob Buskie, chief executive of the Port of Cromarty Firth said: “This is a hugely complex job with a very tight schedule, so we are delighted to be working with Roadbridge.

“They won this contract against very stiff competition from six other leading national and international contractors.

“It is a hugely exciting time for the port and we look forward to working with Roadbridge on this build to ensure it is ready for the Moray East windfarm project in 2020.”

Cathal Doherty from Roadbridge UK Ltd, said “We are delighted to have won this contract from the Port of Cromarty Firth. We are looking forward to starting work on this project and creating sustainable jobs for the future of the area.”

The hub will be able to accommodate both large-scale renewable, decommissioning and oil and gas projects as well as large cruise ships.

The quayside and letdown area will be the second built by the Port of Cromarty Firth in three years, after it invested £25 million in a new 150metre quayside and nine-acre laydown area in 2015/16.

That contributed to the port’s most successful year – with a turnover of £9.9 million, £1 million up on the previous year.
