Road work and canal dredging will impact traffic for some motorists traveling through the city of Port Huron.
Construction on McMorran Boulevard from Huron Avenue to Merchant Street is scheduled to begin Monday, weather permitting.
Work slated for the stretch of roadway includes water main replacement, sanitary sewer installation and street reconstruction. The project, which is being funded by a federal grant and the city’s street and utility funds, is expected to be completed by November.
Due to construction, McMorran Boulevard will be closed to traffic from Huron Avenue to Merchant Street starting Monday and lasting until mid-July. City officials encourage the public to use alternate routes during the closure.
Due to the work, Holland Beach will be closed. City officials said the contractor will use Gratiot Avenue to Edison Boulevard and Conger Street to Holland Avenue to haul sand from the mouth of the Black River Canal to Holland Beach. There will be intermittent slowed and stop-and-go traffic in the area. Motorists are encouraged to not park on the affected streets during that time.
