Dredging works at the Sigatoka and Penang rivers will start as soon as tenders are awarded.
Also on the Ministry of Waterways priority list is the Navua River bank protection works for Vunibau Village.
The two Government-owned dredgers are out of service. Both are 40 years old.
$3 million has been allocated to purchase new dredgers.
Yesterday Minister for Waterways Mahendra Reddy also confirmed that the building of the sixth dam in the Namosi River would start soon.
The ministry already has plans in place for flood mitigation projects over the next financial year.
This includes Nasivi River in Tavua, Deuba River, Labasa River, Nadakuni bank protection, Ba River and Waicoko River.
