River Dredging Now a Step Closer

Posted on May 3, 2016

A $2 million upgrade of the Port Pirie foreshore is a step closer with dredging of Pirie River about to begin.

Contractor Maritime Constructions was on site as Port Pirie Regional Council prepared to dredge the riverbed next to the boat ramp. The project will also include:

– A rock wall to reclaim the foreshore beside the boat ramp

– A fourth lane to the boat ramp

Last month, the South Australian Boating Facility Advisory Committee confirmed $571,000 funding towards the project, along with $1.4 million set aside by council.

The boat ramp will be unavailable for use for up to eight weeks while the works are done.

During this time, the boat ramp on the eastern side of Pirie River, across John Pirie Bridge, will be available for use.
