ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — Red Pines is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser to support the North Shore Dredging Project, an environmental restoration effort aimed at improving Lake Onalaska’s ecosystem.
The fundraising event features raffles and live music as organizers work to close a $100,000 funding gap for the critical lake restoration project.
The North Shore Dredging Project focuses on restoring shallow water habitats and protecting the natural channels of Lake Onalaska. Years of sediment buildup have created challenging conditions that make it harder for fish to survive during winter months.
“The lake is used by so many people, we think it’ll improve fishing, fishing habitats, and recreation for a lot of people,” said Steven Anderson of the Brice Prairie Conservation Association.
The dredging work is scheduled to begin in June, pending the completion of fundraising efforts. The project’s timeline depends on securing the remaining $100,000 needed to move forward with the restoration work.
