After nearly a decade of waiting people in west Augusta are finally seeing a neighborhood pond get cleaned up.
Even with the rain slowing things down dredging has started on Hiers pond in the Kamel West subdivision.
Voters approved the work back in 2009, but concerns with soil contamination slowed down the permitting process with the corps of engineers.
The pond is in the Raes Creek basin so the dredging will help in flood control as well as make it look more attractive.
Once Heirs pond is cleaned out the project will move to nearby Lake Aumond.
