Due to the needs and requirements of the commercial activity in Puerto Chiapas during 2015, the administrative started actions to maintain the areas of navigation, obtaining a resource aproval to start this January 2016 the dredging maintenance works of the navigation channel of Puerto Chiapas in order to increase the depth and maintain the required depth.
Such sediment cleanup operation, will allow access to ships with greater capacity to increase the flow of shipping, which will be taking place throughout the month of January in the areas of navigation access channel and Dock Ciaboga to reach a depth of -11 meters and a length of 100 meters, with a volume of 383,936.00 m3 dredging in a project valued on 54 million pesos.
Dredging is a work that responds to the needs of operation at Puerto Chiapas because it has a not natural harbor, and requires such dredging works continuously. So that, the boat Francesco Di Giorgio type dredge with a Luxembourg flag and a length of 84.82 meters, beam of 21.00 meters, which will be performing this operation 24 hours a day, extracting sand, stones and other materials from the bottom of the navigable channel.
This will help to provide the right conditions for the development and consolidation of the port, and meet the demands and needs of customers, becoming a Special Economic Zone with tax and labor benefits that will attract investment, to become a highly productive region and have the ability to coordinate with the rest of the country and international markets and be the center of development for the southern border of Mexico.
