The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the city of Sheridan, Wyoming, will hold a public meeting on Wed., Jan. 11, 2023, at 612 North Main Street in Sheridan. The purpose of the meeting is to share information on the recently initiated general investigations feasibility study. The study location is within downtown Sheridan within the concrete lined portion of the Little Goose Creek channel (approximately 1,700 linear feet of the channel).
As part of the feasibility study, a public scoping meeting will be held on Jan. 11, 2023, at the Best Western at 6:30 p.m. located at 612 North Main Street, Sheridan, Wyo. A brief presentation and an open house will be the format for the public meeting. During the public meeting and open house, the community is welcomed to join U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ representatives and technical experts to discuss possibilities of this new project and have questions answered.

BACKGROUND: Currently, a 50-foot wide by 10- to 13-foot-high concrete chute replaces the natural Little Goose Creek in downtown Sheridan. All or portions of the chute may be removed to allow for a more natural stream bed, floodplain connection, native vegetation plantings, improved habitat for aquatic species, improved fish passage, and restored natural connection between the upstream and downstream areas. Recreation measures may also be developed to enhance the benefits to the community. The Sponsor has considered a potential removal of 1st Street as an alternative to remove concrete and widen the channel to restore the creek and maintain the current level of flood protection; This alternative along with others not listed will be analyzed further as part of the General Investigation Study.
