Kakching : As part of the campaign to preserve and protect Irum river, Kakching, residents of Kakching and Irengband held a public meeting today at Central Public Hall of Kakching Yumbi Macha High school.
The meeting was presided by Pukhrambam Chaoba Meitei, retired Headmaster Y M High School and Y Bheigyachandra Singh, chairman of TAKDAL.
At the meeting, several environmentalists called for an urgent need for the protection and rejuvenation of Irum river, which also holds various environmental and cultural significance.
After thorough discussion with the people, four resolutions have been taken during the meeting.
In the first resolution, the meeting resolved to grant permission to set up a Working Committee On Rejuvenation of Irum Turel, H.O Kakching and to support the activities of the Committee in protecting and preserving the Irul River.
In the second resolution, the people in the meeting unanimously resolved to support the campaign of cleaning and dredging of Irum River which began from December 27, and to urge the authority to preserve and rejuvenate water bodies of Irum river.
The third resolution urged the people or any individual to not cause any hindrances on the campaign of preserving and rejuvenating the Irum river.
The meeting also resolved to organize “International Wetland Day” under the theme “Protecting wetlands for our common future” on February 2, 2025 .
