Provincetown is seeking a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a dredging project in Provincetown Harbor.
The work would dredge about 3,800 cubic yards of sand in the Fairway area. The town is also looking for authorization to perform maintenance dredging on an as-needed basis of up to 500 cubic yards due to high shoaling rates.
The town is also seeking to construct two floating wave attenuators in the marina. The attenuators will be moored into position using steel pipe piles.
The town also proposes to dredge 3,350 cubic yards from the marina basin below the attenuators.
All of the dredged material will be disposed of at an approved upland site.
The town also seeks to use the “T” at the end of MacMillan Wharf for a variety of community uses and events.
The wharf’s current permits allow for safe access for commercial fishing, whale watch and excursion vessel boarding and offloading, pedestrian walking and the harbormaster’s office.
Public comment on the proposal will be accepted by the Army Corps of Engineers through September 9. Comments can be sent to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, Regulatory Division (ATTN: Crystal Gardner), 696 Virginia Road, Concord, MA 01742-2751.
