Ports of Klaipeda, Hamburg deepen cooperation

The General Director of the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority has signed a declaration of accession to Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V (HHM) in a festive ceremony at the transport logistic trade fair in Munich, Algis Latakas.

The Port of Hamburg is connected to Lithuania by eight container liner services, all of which call at the Port of Klaipeda.

Container ships with slot capacities between 870 and 1,400 TEU are used.

The transit time between Hamburg and Lithuania is usually two to four days, depending on the direction and number of further ports.

“Joining Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. is a continuation of the cooperation agreement signed between the ports of Klaipeda and Hamburg during the visit of the Minister of Transport and Communications to Germany last May,” said Algis Latakas, Director General of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority.

HHM CEO, Axel Mattern, said: “The entire Baltic Sea region is of utmost importance for the Port of Hamburg and Klaipeda is one of the leading ports in the Baltic States.”

“We are pleased to welcome Klaipeda Port Authority as a new member and will intensify the cooperation between our ports,” Mattern added.

Earlier this year, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) commissioned Linde Engineering to build a hydrogen filling station within the scope of its Clean Port & Logistics innovation cluster located at the Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT) in the Port of Hamburg.

More recently, the two port authorities of Hamburg and Halifax officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a joint maritime innovation network platform during the GreenTech for Ports and Terminals.
