Porto Sudeste, located in Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro state, ended 2025 with solid operational results and an expanded portfolio of social and environmental initiatives, reinforcing its strategy of aligning port development with community engagement and responsible environmental practices.
In August, the month in which the terminal marked its 10th anniversary, Porto Sudeste posted its highest monthly throughput since operations began, handling 3.3 million tonnes of iron ore. The milestone was followed by another major operation in November, when the port received the VL Prime, the largest vessel ever to call at the terminal, used to load one million barrels of oil.
Alongside operational performance, Porto Sudeste made progress on its ESG agenda. During COP30, the company was awarded the Diamond Sustainability Seal, a recognition granted by Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports for the full use of clean energy in its operations and for the set of socio-environmental practices implemented throughout the year.
On the social front, initiatives focused on equity and the empowerment of women in the surrounding region continued to expand. The Extraordinary Women programme, which received an award from Firjan, and the achievement of the Women-Friendly Company Seal underscored the company’s commitment to gender equity and to strengthening opportunities for women who live and work in the area.
Another highlight was the progress of the partnership with the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), which linked technical education to the port’s operational reality, generating innovative solutions to regional challenges. Initiatives such as the Inclusive Garden project also continued to support sustainability, training and the inclusion of people with disabilities.
In governance, Porto Sudeste obtained the international certifications ISO 37001 (Anti-Bribery Management System) and ISO 37301 (Compliance Management System), confirming the adoption of robust internal controls and high standards of transparency.
Throughout 2025, the company reiterated that operational growth depends on sustainable practices and ongoing dialogue with the local community. Behind each result achieved is the day-to-day work of teams that contribute to operational efficiency, the advancement of social projects and the consolidation of the terminal as a driver of regional development.
Porto Sudeste reaffirmed its commitment to advancing its activities with social responsibility, integrity and environmental rigor, demonstrating that growth in port activity can go hand in hand with local well-being and the preservation of natural resources.
