The port of Vladivostok will be able to accommodate the world’s largest cruise ships upon implementation of dredging works the tender for which has been announced by FSUE Rosmorport. According to the press center of Primorsky Territory Government, the dredging is to be performed at the first and the second berths of the port. When the works are completed the passenger terminal will be able to handle vessels with the draft of up to 9 meters. Konstantin Shestakov, Director of Primorsky Territory’s Tourism Department, believes this will expand the potential of Vladivostok in servicing of cruise ships.
According to the statement, Rosmorport is going to allocate RUB 8.8 mln for design works.
“Cruise tourism is among the promising sectors of the region. Of course, infrastructure should be improved for its development. The first step has been made – a tender for design specifications and estimates has been announced. Then a contractor will be selected and dredging works will be performed. For us this means vaster opportunities in handling vessels of different types. Yes, the depth is sufficient for most cruise liners sailing in the APR today but some ship owners and cruise operators considering the calls to Vladivostok would prefer the depth at the berths most closely match the specified parameters and exceed 9 meters. Then the Primorsky Territory will be able to count on more cruise liners,” said Konstantin Shestakov.
According to the official, the experts have paid special attention to the development of cruise tourism this year: through arranging a separate booth at the Second Pacific Tourist Forum, participation in dedicated international exhibitions and congresses , presentation of port Vladivostok as a new destination in the cruise market of the APR as well as negotiation with partners and business communities.
“The call of Chinese Taishan, cruise ship from China, was a milestone event. The operator is looking into inclusion of port Vladivostok into its lines. In the beginning of the year we will be informed about the company’s plans for 2017. Special success was achieved in the talks with our Korean partners from Kangwon province. Costa Victoria, cruise ship from the Republic of Korea, has visited the Primorye for the first time this year and the company is planning regular visits now. We expect up to 15 calls net year,” emphasized the Director of Primorsky Territory’s Tourism Department.
The statement says that the number of cruise liners’ calls to the Primorye will triple next year. Aregular cruise line will link the Primorye with Japan and South Korea. These plans were announced by the delegation of the Republic of Korea headed by the President of a Maritime Tourism Center in Kangwon province. The prospects of Primorye-Asia cruise tourism were discussed at the 21 Summit on international exchange and cooperation of regional administration of the North East Asia attended by Vladimir Miklushevsky, Governor of the Primorsky Territory.
This year’s sixth cruise ship will come to the Primorye on 20 October 2016. Japanese ship Pacific Venus carrying 500 passengers will moor at the port of Vladivostok at 07:00 (local time) and leave the port at 12:00 on October 21.
