German shipping line Hapag-Lloyd has announced that the Port of Savannah is once again part of its Atlantic Loop 3 service.
The port was previously omitted from the service to avoid delays and to maintain schedule integrity. To ensure this it was replaced with the Port of Jacksonville (JAXPORT).
“If you’re shipping between the East Coast of North America and the North of Europe on our AL3 service, we are glad to share with you that we will be resuming our Savannah calls on January 2022,” said Hapag-Lloyd in a statement.
The last westbound sailing to JAXPORT will be the MV Missouri Express V. 056W.
Announced in November 2021, the omission is set to start on week 50 of 2021 and will continue through till week of 2022. This means that the ONE Hawk, Hyundai Honour, Rome Express, and the Antwerpen Express will no longer stop at Savannah.
Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) followed this trend and replaced the Port of Savannah with the Port of Charleston on its East Mediterranean – America service (EMA). Announced in December 2021, the service is set to begin calling at the North Charleston Terminal in the Port of Charleston for a period of six weeks from 14 January 2022.
The move came in a bid to aid OOCL’s schedule integrity across its Trans-Atlantic network.
