The Port of Rotterdam Authority has inked a new deal with VARO Energy Group.
In the Port Authority’s bidding procedure for the cleanest useable energy transporter, VARO’s goods won out.
Since 2018, the Port of Rotterdam has been using VARO’s HVO100 (100 per cent hydrotreated vegetable oil) in its fleet.
This biofuel, derived from renewable ingredients, decreases fleet CO2 emissions by up to 89 per cent compared to traditional diesel fuel.
The biofuel may be combined with conventional diesel in any ratio and is compatible with all contemporary diesel engines, without modification. As a result, HVO is an easily accessible and cost-effective solution to reduce CO2 emissions.
The Port of Rotterdam Authority’s goal is to gradually transition to emission-free vessels starting in 2025.
As a result, the supplier was tasked with devising new ways to transport various types of fuels and lubricants while keeping the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s air quality standards in mind. This might include hydrogen, methanol, biofuel, and other synthetic fuels.
