Port officials say a decline in international container volume led to reduced hours
BALTIMORE — The Port of Baltimore is reducing hours at its terminal that handles container business due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to port officials.
Officials with the Port of Baltimore say “Ports America Chesapeake,” which operates the Seagirt Marine Terminal at the Port of Baltimore, closed this past Thursday, March 5th because of current declines in international container volumes due to the coronavirus. The company will also close again on Tuesday, March 17th, which is held as an optional labor holiday depending on business.
The Seagirt Marine Terminal also has reduced gate hours, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, officials say.
The changes are only impacting the Seagirt Marine Terminal, which handles the Port of Baltimore’s container business. Officials say the other five public marine terminals in the Port of Baltimore are not impact by the hours.
