Port Authority Awards Contracts For Harbor Dredging, Ferry Engines

Posted on January 10, 2017

The New Bourbon Regional Port Authority board conducted a meeting in December after all, though last week’s meeting at the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission in Perryville addressed a limited agenda to consider bids for two projects.

The board awarded Magruder Construction Company the contract for harbor dredging of 75,000 cubic yards of material.

And it awarded CK Power the contract for replacement of the two engines and a generator on the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc Ferry contingent upon approval from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), which is not automatic since there was only one bid.

Board chairman Ron Inman was surprised that only one bid had been received, as he had heard from a firm interested in bidding.

“I know the state likes to have three bids,” Inman said. “I was a little disappointed we had but one.”

Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission staff member Ron Steele said MoDOT could ask for the project to be advertised again or it might allow the project to proceed if it considers the bid to be good.
