Texas Department of Transportation will cease Port Aransas ferry operations for up to two hours beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release.
Changes in operations come amid the Port of Corpus Christi and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ dredging project.
The required temporary closure will give Orion Marine Group time to connect sections of dredge discharge pipe. The connections will block ferry landings on Harbor Island until the pipe is submerged, the release states.
Dredging will remove sand Hurricane Harvey deposited in the ship channel, which has caused draft restrictions for some vessels, the release states.
Operations of the ferry will begin after work is completed Thursday. For updates on the ferry operations call 361-749-2850.
