The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is looking to get feedback from residents of St. Johns County as it prepares to conduct a study looking at coastal storm damages and risks along the shores of Ponte Vedra Beach.

The Army Corps and St. Johns County have a cost-sharing agreement that gives the Corps the authority to evaluate “coastal storm risk management opportunities” over the next 50 years.

A first step in its upcoming study, the Corps will host two online public presentations on Thursday, July 15.

The presentations will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Detailed directions for logging in and participating in the online presentations will be published in the next few days on the Jacksonville Army Corps District’s website and on Facebook and Twitter.

The public meetings are an opportunity to discuss the project study area and answer any questions members of the community may have. There will also be time for public comments.

Comments and questions can also be submitted via email to PonteVedraBeachCSRM@usace.army.mil with “Ponte Vedra Beach CSRM NEPA Scoping Comments” in the subject line. Comments must be received by close of business on July 29 for consideration. Comments can also be mailed to the U.S. Army Corps at 701 San Marco Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207, Attn: Mr. Darren Pecora.

Flooding and coastal erosion are serious concerns in Ponte Vedra Beach, and those threats are only expected to worsen as sea levels rise and the climate continues to change.
