Between a private dock and Bucksport Marina is the site of the proposed marine industrial park in the Bucksport community of Horry County on Aug. 27. Economic developers would like to see a yacht manufacturer at the stie. Grand Strand business leaders hope construction will begin within a year on area once permitting is issued from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
If Ben Staples had his way, his only Bucksport neighbors would be wildlife roaming the woods and fish belly flopping in the Waccamaw River.
“We’d have no people here,” said Staples, who lives in Lexington but owns a half-acre lot beside the Bucksport Marina. “I would be happy, but that’s not reality.”
