ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WPMI) — Major projects are underway to protect beaches in Baldwin County, and will likely last through Spring Break.
Crews have been dredging at Perdido Pass in Orange Beach since January, and work is expected to last several more weeks.
Orange Beach officials said for the first time, they are able to use the sand collected to re-nourish city beaches affected by recent storms.
Ken Grimes, Orange Beach City Administrator, said the state has not allowed them to keep the sand collected during past dredging operations.
With Spring Break starting in two days, officials are encouraging boaters and beach goers to be aware of the dredge barge in place at Perdido Pass.
NBC 15’s Cory Pippin is speaking with city officials and beach goers. He’ll have more in a live report at 10 p.m.
