Pearl HPW Group of Nigeria Announces the Acquisition and Rebuild of 26″ Cutter Suction Dredger Orashi (ex-Ballena Azul)

Posted on November 17, 2025

Pearl HPW Group announces the acquisition and rebuild of its Cutter Suction Dredger Orashi, formerly known as Ballena Azul.

The Orashi is an IHC Beaver 65 DD, a 650mm (26”) Cutter Suction Dredger built by Royal IHC in 2014. She was previously owned and operated by TMM Group of Tampico, Mexico, where she served in major harbor maintenance and land reclamation works along the Gulf Coast before joining the Pearl Group fleet.

In July 2025, the dredger arrived at Onne Port, Nigeria, where she underwent a complete reassembly and technical overhaul jointly executed by Pearl Group engineers and IHC specialists at the INTELS Facility, FLT Onne Port.

Now fully restored and upgraded, Orashi is ready for deployment to fulfill Pearl HPW’s reclamation and coastal infrastructure projects across the Niger Delta. With a dredging depth of up to 20 meters, and production capacity exceeding 4,000 m³/hr, and a record of reliability, Orashi stands as a symbol of Pearl’s commitment to sustainable marine engineering and local capacity development.

“The Orashi marks a new phase for us — a demonstration that Nigerian expertise and global partnerships can deliver world-class infrastructure outcomes,” said Douglas Okafor, Managing Director, Pearl HPW Group.
