PD Ports unveils Teesport Offshore Gateway plans

Posted on April 30, 2025

PD Ports has aimed to develop the Teesport Offshore Gateway — one of the UK’s largest offshore wind manufacturing and installation hubs.

Spanning 180 acres, the site will reportedly support manufacturing, assembly, marshalling, and supply chain services.

The Teesport Offshore Gateway, a proposed £200 million ($267 million) investment on the River Tees, will feature a deep-water quay up to 1 kilometre long, providing direct North Sea access for floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind projects.

Located within PD Ports’ Teesport complex — the UK’s sixth largest port — the site offers strong infrastructure, transport links, and a skilled workforce.

While still in early planning and subject to consent variations, the project aims to support the UK’s offshore wind ambitions with critical port facilities.

Frans Calje, CEO of PD Ports, said: “As the UK and the wider world turns its attention to large-scale renewable energy sources, here at PD Ports we see the opportunity – and the responsibility – to play our part by offering an offshore wind development site, to deliver the clean energy revolution.

“We also firmly believe that a facility such as this will lead to significant job creation – driving growth, employment and skills training opportunities in our coastal communities.”

In February, PD Ports confirmed that the new Trans Pennine rail freight connection between Teesport and Manchester’s Trafford Park has successfully completed its first run.
