Patrushev called for expanding the transport capabilities of the rivers of the Krasnoyarsk Territory

The transport capabilities of the rivers of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, primarily the Yenisei, need to be expanded to use the potential of the Transarctic Transport Corridor and the Northern Sea Route, among other things, it is necessary to modernize the port infrastructure and create multimodal transport and logistics hubs, said Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President of Russia, Chairman of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation.

The Krasnoyarsk Territory is the most water-rich region of Russia, and the main waterway of the region is the Yenisei River, which connects the largest transport and logistics routes – the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Northern Sea Route, Patrushev said at a meeting in Dudinka on the development of the Arctic seaports of Dickson and Dudinka, as well as inland waterways.

“The potential cargo base of river transportation in the Yenisei basin is estimated at about 8 million tons, which is almost 8% of the total cargo base of inland waterway transportation in the country. This potential can be increased by including the Yenisei transport infrastructure in the Central Eurasian Transport Corridor, which is being formed on behalf of the President of Russia, which will run through Mongolia to China,” Patrushev said.

In addition, the transport infrastructure of the Krasnoyarsk Territory may receive an additional boost due to the inclusion of the river ports of Krasnoyarsk and Lesosibirsk in the route network for the transportation of coal and lumber along the Transarctic Transport Corridor, he added.

“To implement these plans, as well as use the potential of the Transarctic Transport Corridor and the Northern Sea Route as its key element, it is necessary to expand the transportation capabilities of the inland waterways of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, primarily the Yenisei, including through the renewal of the fleet of river vessels, dredging of rivers, modernization of port and berthing infrastructure, creation of multimodal transport and logistics hubs.” Patrushev emphasized.
