ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Pass-a-Grille’s beach nourishment efforts have largely concluded south of Paradise Grille, with focus shifting to the north end early next week.
Here’s what beachgoers can expect:
South End Reopening: The beach stretch from 3rd Avenue access to Paradise Grille will reopen as soon as Monday. However, the jetty pier and access points at 1st and 2nd Avenues remain closed for the project’s duration.
Paradise Grille Closure: Fencing is being erected around Paradise Grille today, closing the beach directly behind it. The Grille itself will stay open for business.
Northern Section Closure: Starting early next week, the beach from Paradise Grille to just past 15th Avenue access will close until late September. The final nourishment phase will then occur between 16th and 22nd Avenues, allowing the beach from Paradise Grille to 16th Avenue to reopen.
The entire project is anticipated to finish by late November.
Important Reminders:
- Dune Protection: Dunes are delicate, particularly with newly planted vegetation. Please stay off the dunes and use designated beach access points only.
- Nourishment Purpose: Pass-a-Grille is on a 10-year nourishment cycle, crucial for replacing sand lost to storms and erosion. These projects maintain our beautiful beaches, support tourism, and offer protection against storm surge.
- Funding: With federal nourishment projects stalled, this project is funded by hotel bed tax revenue and state grants.
