The City of Panama City Beach is moving forward with plans to clean up the Lullwater Lake Basin.
Thursday evening city leaders voted to accept a three-million-dollar grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
The funds will go toward lake restoration efforts which include removing debris from the bottom of the lake and getting rid of the abundance of vegetation.
Panama City Beach Council member Michael Jarman said city leaders have worked very hard for this moment.
“We have fought really hard and spent a lot of time trying to get that allocation so that something can be done for that lake and the residents around it,” Jarman said. “We will be going back this year to try to get an additional three million dollars to further enhance the cleanup process that we’re trying to do there.”
At this time, officials are not sure when cleanup will commence.
