The Panama Canal Board of Directors has approved a bidding process for a new pipeline to transfer energy products, enhancing operations along the interoceanic waterway.
This project will support the sustainable development of the West Bank route on the Panama Canal, offering alternatives to sea transport.
The pipeline aims to strengthen Panama’s strategic position, boost Canal capacity, and improve global service.
The Administration’s request to proceed, supported by a private initiative proposal, was evaluated by the ACP and external advisors for viability.
The Canal will conduct a transparent bidding process to ensure strong competition and attract qualified companies for the pipeline’s development and operation.
This decision aims to strengthen the Canal’s long-term competitiveness and sustainability, supporting international maritime trade and boosting social investment in Panama.
PCRC operates a 76-kilometre single-line railway adjacent to the Canal that mainly facilitates cargo movement between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
