Over €600,000 (€606,000) has been allocated to Dingle Harbour as part of this year’s Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme.
In total, the six State Fishery Harbour Centres (SFHC), were allocated over 22-and-a-half-million euro (€22,520,000).
Today’s announcement has been welcome by the Minister Norma Foley, Minister of State Michael Healy-Rae, Senator Mike Kennelly, Deputy Michael Cahill, and Deputy Danny Healy Rae:
Under the programme, the Department of the Marine allocated over €6.4 million to Rossaveel/Ros An Mhíl in Galway, over €5.8 million to Castletownbere in Cork, over €5.5 million to Howth in Dublin, over €2.1 million to Killybegs in Donegal, and almost €2 million to Dunmore East in Waterford.
Dingle got almost 2.7% of the funding, or €606,000.
This will be spent of safety and maintenance measures (€300,000), disability access (€20,000), a floating breakwater and marina at the western marina extension (€100,000), energy measures (€100,000), vehicle and machinery (€66,000), and dredging the eastern basin and navigation channel (€20,000).
A further €20,000 has been provided for piers, lights and beacons in Kerry.
A €4.3 million fund will also be made available nationally under the 2026 Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme, for shovel ready capital projects such as pier repairs, slipway upgrades, safety improvements, and enhancement of marine leisure facilities.
Through the scheme, the department will co-fund up to 75% of the eligible project costs, with the local authority providing the balance.
