Over 30 Hectares Dredged by Boskalis Under Hulhumale’ Phase III Reclamation

Over 30 hectares of land have been dredged under the Hulhumale’ Phase III land reclamation project, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has said.

Dredging work resumed on 10 November after a halt, and was accelerated on 28 November by using two dredgers simultaneously. The work is overseen directly by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to expedite housing-related development in the Male’ area, with Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC) handling the project.

Phase III aims to dredge a total of 63 hectares, with completion expected before the end of the year. A 22,000 CBM dredger from Netherlands-based Boskalis is currently being utilised for the project. After the Phase III is completed, the dredgers will be moved to Gulhifalhu for reclamation works, with work expected to reach completion within a few months.

Over 1,600 hectares of land are being dredged across five areas to address housing shortage in Male’ City. While 277 hectares are being dredged from Gulhifalhu, a total of 277 hectares will be dredged from Hulhumale’ Phase I. Efforts are also underway to accelerate dredging at Ras Male’.
