Ørsted Marine Affairs and The Better Bay Alliance to Host Public Presentation on Revolution Wind Construction Project

Posted on August 14, 2024

On Thursday, August 22nd at 7 pm, The Better Bay Alliance will collaborate with Ørsted Marine Affairs to host a public presentation at The Wickford Senior Center in N. Kingstown, RI. This event aims to provide detailed insights into the Revolution Wind Construction project and its impact on the local community and marine environment.

The event will kick off with opening remarks from Dave Lussier, President of The Better Bay Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing boating safety in Rhode Island waters. Lussier will emphasize the importance of proactive communication with the public regarding upcoming operations that could affect boating safety, including the installation of the Revolution Wind Farm and it’s cable connections to shore. This offshore wind farm will connect to the shore via cabling through the west passage of Narragansett Bay and to a sub-station in Quonset, RI.

“The BBA is not in any partnership with Ørsted and does not endorse or support them. We are simply an interested party that wants the boating public to fully understand Ørsted’s plans to ensure boating safety remains a priority for all waterway users,” stated Lussier. He added that The Better Bay Alliance neither supports nor opposes offshore wind power.

In response to the need for transparency, the Better Bay Alliance has developed the LIVE CHART product. This tool illustrates specific areas and schedules for the Orsted cable-laying activities, ensuring that stakeholders remain informed. Additionally, the organization disseminates news about many other events and activities on the water via LIVE CHART product including categories for sailing, power, social (Jazz/Folk fests, fireworks, Aquapalooza), and miscellaneous (cruise ship visits, swim the bay). LIVE CHART is free and easily accessible on the BBA website: www.betterbayalliance.org.

Following the opening remarks, Ørsted will provide updates on the Revolution Wind Construction project. The presentation will offer detailed insights into the project’s technical approach, emphasizing its impact on marine ecosystems, renewable energy, and local communities.

The event hopes to attract a diverse audience, including industry professionals, environmental advocates, and inquisitive citizens eager to gain deeper insights into the future of offshore wind energy.
