Developer Ørsted has achieved a major milestone on the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind project in Taiwan, the offshore substation for the project having been installed
“This achievement is a significant step in our journey, from the initial steel cut back in July 2023, to the sail-away from Seatrium in February, from Singapore to Taiwan, culminating in the installation of the offshore substation jacket foundation and final topside,” said the company.
“Despite the challenging weather at this time of the year, installation of the offshore substation went smoothly. The jacket and piles and the topside were transported by Boskalis’s Mighty Servant 3 and Transshelf. Heerema’s heavy-lift vessel Aegir then successfully completed the installation.
“As we advance into the next phase of offshore construction of the 920 MW project, we’ve also completed the first export cable section. With the arrival of the Wind Maker vessel in Taiwan, we are ready to begin the installation of 66 suction bucket jacket foundations and the wind turbines.”
The company initiated offshore construction of Greater Changhua 2b and 4 in February 2025. It was awarded a contract for the windfarms in June 2018. In July 2020, the company signed a 20-year fixed-price corporate power purchase agreement for the full production from the windfarms.
