Bright ideas from Borssele bound for Baltica
While many of his colleagues are busy building Poland’s largest offshore wind farm, Baltica 2, Jakub’s eyes are on what comes next. As Operations Preparation Manager, his focus is on getting operations right from day one, shaping how the wind farm runs when it comes online in 2027.
To turn planning and strategy into practice, he recently went on a field trip to our Borssele 1 & 2 operations hub in the Netherlands to study first-hand how colleagues run a modern offshore wind farm on a day-to-day basis.
“With my background in offshore operations preparation and practical offshore experience, I was eager to see how a modern, large-scale Ørsted wind farm operates – how teams ensure safety, maintain efficiency, and adapt to weather challenges,” he explains.
As he sailed around the 8 MW turbines in the North Sea, he saw up close what it really takes to make offshore operations work: the critical role of vessel logistics and quayside set-ups, how detailed the office teams prepare for the next day’s operations, the discipline it takes to navigate weather windows efficiently, and how every detail of training, skills, safety awareness, and care for one another matters once you’re out at sea.
“At the end, it’s all about people working together in a highly coordinated and passionate way, taking care of each other out at sea. That spirit and the practical insights gained at Borssele 1 & 2 will feed directly into Baltica 2 as the project moves toward operations”, he adds.
Once completed, Baltica 2 will produce enough renewable energy to power around 2,5 million Polish homes.
