Ørsted: Baltica 2 monopiles are on the move

Posted on January 19, 2026

The load-out of the first batch of monopiles for the Baltica 2 project in Poland has been completed. The finished steel foundations have been placed onto a barge and started their voyage to the feeder port in Rønne, Denmark. This marks the transition from manufacturing to offshore logistics.

For Baltica 2 the largest offshore wind farm currently under construction in Poland, jointly developed by Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna a total of 111 monopiles are planned: 107 for wind turbines and 4 for offshore substations. Each structure can be up to 100 metres long, around 10 metres in diameter, and weigh up to 1,900 tonnes. Designed to withstand wind turbine loads, waves, and wind for decades, they require exceptional manufacturing precision, extensive pre-commissioning testing’testing, and advanced multi-layer corrosion protection systems.

We’re pleased to see the load-out at EEW Group’s production facilities progressing as planned. Transport is underway, and activities remain on schedule. Preparatory offshore works are currently underway ahead of the installation phase scheduled to start in May, paving the way for the installation of foundations that will later enable the wind turbines to reach a height of around 250 metres.
