Our team replaced the aging Southwest guide wall dolphin with a new monolithic concrete bull nose dolphin, strengthening navigation along this critical waterway.
Project highlights:
- Demolished 60 feet of the existing timber guide wall
- Drove 36-inch piles and installed precast formwork members
- Placed a 6-foot-thick mass concrete foundation below water elevation
- Constructed 17-foot-high mass concrete walls with support from our Orion Concrete Houston team
- Pumped concrete more than 300 feet over the levee to reach the structure
- Removed the original dolphin superstructure in one piece weighing 1.2 million pounds
- Installed 1,500 epoxy anchors and 1,300 feet of UHMW fender system
The project was delivered with zero lost-time incidents across 23,024 man hours!
