An agreement that will reportedly be signed on February 25, at the US Department of Transportation, between ONEX Shipyards and Technologies (which controls the shipyards of Elefsina and Syros), and South Korean Hanwha Power Systems, is part of the US strategic plan to rebuild and strengthen its domestic shipbuilding and maritime industry.
The South Korean giant – the seventh largest in the country – already has a strong footprint in the US market, having acquired Philly Shipyard in 2024.
Washington sources say the agreement will significantly boost the production of commercial ships in the US.
