Offshore wind backers tap affordability to blunt Trump’s attacks

CLIMATEWIRE | Despite a string of court losses, the Trump administration continues to oppose offshore wind projects and has not shared classified military concerns about five projects under construction with their developers.

But proponents of the projects are aiming to make headway with the administration by leaning into growing concerns among voters about energy affordability to get a set of wind farms built. The projects could power more than 2.5 million homes — if they’re finished.

Weeks after receiving relief from federal judges to allow their projects to continue construction, the developers have yet to see details of Department of Defense reports that the Interior Department cited when pausing construction in December, according to two lobbyists familiar with the situation who were granted anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

The offshore wind developers have tried to gain insight into the content of the classified material and find ways to mitigate security concerns by asking for briefings with lawyers who possess security clearances, according to court filings.
