Officials to mark the completion of the Jeorse Park Beach project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes National Program Office, Rep. Frank J. Mrvan (IN-1), and East Chicago Mayor Anthony Copeland will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the Jeorse Park Beach project

TIME:         10:00 CST

The project addressed the restoration of nearly 40 acers of habitat located at or near Jeorse Park including near shore fisheries, beach, and foredune.  This project provides essential habitat for fishes, migratory birds, reptiles and amphibians. Operation and maintenance of the project by the City of East Chicago will ensure long term viability of the project resources.

This project was undertaken through Section 506 of the Water Resource Development Act.  The project was funded with USEAP managed Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Appropriations.
