Ocean City officials will host a public meeting to discuss their short term plan for the city’s 2017 dredge program next weekend.
Officials will discuss a potential short-term plan that involves using city-owned property at the far end of Shelter Road as a transfer point for dredged material during the meeting on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center, 10 a.m.
Residents of South Harbor and Ocean Reef will receive an update on the plan. Officials will also discuss the challenges presented with some of the alternative ideas for the program.
Officials will also provide information and solicit feedback on new technology being used in the process.
The plan is expected to incorporate mid-island lagoons.
” The idea represents an opportunity to save Ocean City’s dredging program for 2017 and to test a method that could help keep waterways dredged and navigable long into the future,” the city said in a release issued on Thursday.
“The 2017 dredge program may not be viable without an alternative dredge material handling methodology,” Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian said. “I hope you can join us at this meeting to hear the latest. I look forward to seeing you.”
