Elected officials toured the dredging of Flushing Bay on Monday, seeing the tax dollars they voted to allocate hard at work.
The work being carried out by the Army Corps of Engineers calls for the removal of sedentary material to keep the navigation channel at 15 feet deep. The project is expected to cost approximately $12.1 million and will be completed by December 26, ahead of schedule.
“Flushing Bay is an important local channel for ships and boats,” said Congresswoman Grace Meng, who got an up close view of the process. “Ensuring that these vessels are able to freely navigate through this body of water helps promote and improve everything from trade and commerce to recreation and public safety.”
