The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has allocated $2.45 million in federal funding toward Ocean City’s beach replenishment project, officials said.

Rep. Andy Harris says this project will encourage growth in Ocean City’s tourism industry.

“The beaches of Ocean City were severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012,” Rep. Harris said. “I am pleased to see the Army Corps of Engineers working with Ocean City officials to fund and complete the beach replenishment project.”

Sand is set to be pumped from an area in federal waters located three miles offshore of Ocean City, officials said. This work will reportedly begin after Labor Day and continue into late winter.
