A portion of Ocean City’s storm-ravaged beaches will be repaired after the summer, according to a statement issued Friday by city officials.

Mayor Jay Gillian said the Army Corp of Engineers will return to Ocean City to begin a beach rebuild project in the north end of the city.

“The multimillion-dollar replenishment work will be completed a year ahead of schedule and will be funded entirely by the Federal Emergency Management Agency,” Gillian said. “The project will restore beaches from Seaspray Road to 14th Street.”

Damage to the beach was assessed after Winter Storm Jonas in January 2016.

The Army Corps is expected to approve the contract for the work by the end of August, with beach replenishment expected to be scheduled in the fall and finished by March 2018, according to the statement.

The exact dates will be announced once a bidder for the project is determined.

Ocean City’s south end is also scheduled for a replenishment project in late 2018 or early 2019.
