Recently, City staff met with representatives of NSPW and the Wisconsin DNR to discuss the NSP Superfund Wet Dredge Project, including the upcoming project schedule for 2018. The plan calls for site mobilization to begin in mid-April after the ice is out of the bay.
Large residual tubes of sediment will be transported and disposed of off- site from late March through early April. Hydraulic dredging of the 16-acre site with a vacuum-like device will start late April through mid-May. The large white tent at the site is expected to be removed in late June. A restorative layer will be placed on the lake bottom from mid-June through mid-August. The temporary barrier system will be removed from mid-July through mid-August, followed by rip rap (stone) placement below the waterline along select east and west peninsula areas. Fish habitat is expected to be placed in mid-August and the site is expected to be demobilized in late August thorough mid-September.
The schedule above is weather dependent. More information on the project can be found online at: www.xcelenergy.com/environment/responsibleoperations/ashlandproject. The end of this project is quickly approaching.
