The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) recently carried out dredging operations along the Abra River to improve water flow into the Abra River Irrigation System (ARIS) in Barangay Bumagcat, Tayum.
NIA explained that heavy siltation had occurred near the ARIS intake following continuous rains in recent weeks, reducing the system’s capacity to divert water. By removing excess silt and debris, the dredging will help restore optimal water levels for farming communities in the province.
For the current wet cropping season, ARIS is irrigating 2,379 hectares in the municipalities of Tayum and Bangued, 297 hectares of which are at the reproductive stage and 2,082 hectares at the vegetative stage.
