After taking over as Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department Kashmir, Imtiyaz Ahmad Dhar inspected dredging of river Jhelum in the summer capital.
Dhar convened a meeting of the department officials and directed them to completing the dredging within stipulated time.
“Dredging of river Jhelum, flood spill channels and removal of encroachments are our priorities. People have expectations from us. Government has been releasing funds for execution of dredging and other works. We have to live up to the expectations of the people and the government,” he told the meeting.
The Chief Engineer asked the field to remain vigilant against encroachments.
“Strict action under law must be initiated against those found guilty of encroachment. The concerned officials in their domain would be responsible for any illegal activity in case they fail to act promptly under law,” he told the officials.
“My priority is to save Srinagar from floods,” Dhar told Greater Kashmir. Dhar was promoted and posted as Chief Engineer on June 1. He was serving department as Superintendent Engineer (SE).
