WILMINGTON, N.C. – A resilience and restoration technology company is partnering with the NC Coastal Federation to analyze the impacts of coastal ecosystems along the state coast.
Natrx, based in North Carolina, will analyze shoreline changes and identify where restoration can most benefit the coast.
Natrx is using its Assess toolset, powered by advanced AI and remote sensing, to conduct precise analysis spanning more than 4,000 square miles.
“This level of decision-ready, coastwide data has never been available before,” said Jacob Boyd, Salt Marsh Program Director for the Coastal Federation. “With the results of Natrx’s assessment, we will have the insight needed to direct resources where they will have the greatest impact.”
Natrx estimates the technology will deliver data insights within a year about where coastal restoration efforts will have the greatest return. Analysis includes advanced erosion assessments, carbon spatial modeling, and ultra-high-resolution wetland mapping.
The study is part of the Atlantic Conservation Coalition, which includes Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, The Nature Conservancy, Coastal Federation and 18 other organizations.
Once the analysis is complete, the Coastal Federation will have high-fidelity erosion datasets for the coastline and strategies to prioritize sites for restoration or protection efforts.
“This is exactly the kind of expansive, bold initiative we intended when we created Natrx Assess,” said Leonard Nelson, Natrx CEO. “Our platform transforms how coastal experts approach complex, large-scale questions, delivering clear, actionable insights quickly.”
Natrx is implementing its new Natrx Adaptive Infrastructure platform to help organizations effectively leverage nature as a tool for resilience and restoration.
