With three quick voice votes at its Feb. 4 meeting, the Nags Head Board of Commissioners formally awarded the Town’s 2026 beach nourishment contract for $36.4 million to Weeks Marine.
The formal contract approval followed the approval of the Notice of Intent to Award a contract at the Board’s Dec. 17 meeting. The three bidders for the beach nourishment project were Manson Construction, Great Lakes Dredge & Dock and Weeks Marine. The bids were received on Nov. 13, and Weeks Marine submitted the low bid for the 2026 work. The Outer Banks Voice – Nags Head moves to award 2026 beach nourishment contract to Weeks Marine.
In a brief presentation at the Feb. 4 meeting, Town Engineer David Ryan said the contract approval would require votes on three different items.
- Issue the Notice of Award to Weeks Marine.
- Authorize the Town Manager to execute the construction contract for $36,412,600.
- Approve a beach nourishment capital project ordinance, which is required to pre-audit the contract.
Following the unanimous voice votes by the Commissioners, Mayor Ben Cahoon noted that “there’s still a lot of work to do on that, but we’re getting the ball rolling. Especially after this storm, I know we all recognize how [desperately] we need to do this project this summer.
