Mythos AI Logs 11,000 Miles in Full Autonomy

Posted on September 24, 2025

Mythos AI has completed more than 11,000 miles of fully autonomous ship navigation, including operations in the crowded Houston–Galveston Ship Channel. The company says its system has safely managed thousands of vessel interactions under international collision regulations.

Mythos AI announced it has surpassed 11,000 miles of fully autonomous vessel operations, a first for the commercial shipping industry. The company said its autonomous navigation platform has successfully handled more than 15,000 safe interactions under the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).

The company’s autonomous vessel “Archie” recently covered 803 miles in the Houston–Galveston Ship Channel without human intervention. According to Mythos AI, the vessel maintained an average speed just under 21 knots and executed 1,290 COLREGs-compliant maneuvers in one of the busiest waterways in the United States.

Geoff Douglass, CEO of Mythos AI, said navigation is the toughest challenge for both commercial and defense operations. “The limiting factor to scaling autonomy for the Navy is navigation. That’s why we set out to establish the gold standard for autonomous navigation, starting with a commercial-first mentality,” Douglass said. “By proving our system in the toughest environments, we’ve built the system that both industry and defense have been waiting for.”

Mythos AI’s platform, called Mythos Navigation (MNAV), is designed to operate across a wide range of conditions. The company reports an operating envelope from idle to 30 knots, performance in heavy traffic, more than 3,500 hours of proprietary perception data, and over 150 million radar and camera frames to train its system.

Alongside its fully autonomous technology, Mythos AI has introduced the Advanced Pilot Assist System (APAS). The system is engineered to act like an intelligent co-pilot, intervening only when needed. It has already been approved by the U.S. Coast Guard to operate in American ports and harbors, including the Mississippi River and the Houston–Galveston Ship Channel.

The company’s technology has gained attention from the defense sector. Mythos AI has been included in fifteen defense teaming initiatives, including partnerships with a top ten U.S. shipyard and several prime Navy contractors. It also secured pilot projects with Southern Devall on the Mississippi River and with CB Tankers and Lomar Shipping for tanker operations.

Mythos AI was recently named Blue Economy Innovator of the Year by the Mississippi Small Business Development Center. The company says its focus on practical deployment and commercial readiness sets it apart from competitors struggling to deliver effective autonomy.
