Sarasota City Manager Tom Barwin came up with a way to settle the fight over a project to dredge millions of yards of sand from Big Pass.
According to the Herald Tribune, Barwin is proposing a $2 to $3 million insurance fund for the project.
If the dredging negatively impacts either Siesta Key or Lido Key, the fund could be used to correct it.
$2 million is already available for the fund through tourist development taxes.
Barwin says they could request an extra $1 million from the county to contribute.
City staff will present a letter outlining the proposal for the commission’s approval at its next meeting.
