Muddy River project work to cause intermittent road closures on Fenway near Agassiz Road June 9

Posted on June 8, 2021

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District announced today upcoming temporary road closures of Fenway on June 9, 2021, as work activities continue to progress on Phase 2 of the $36.5 million Muddy River Flood Risk Management project in Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts.

Intermittent road closures of Fenway will take place June 9 at Work Area #13 in the vicinity of Fenway and Agassiz Road (at the Boston Fire Department building). The intermittent road closures will occur on Fenway to allow workers to position tractor trailers in the existing Boston Fire Department parking lot to deliver a crane. Once the crane is assembled, it will be used to set the new underground pump station in place in the existing parking lot. State Police details will be on site to temporarily stop traffic to allow the tractor trailers to safely maneuver in and out of the project work area. The temporary road closures will take place between 7 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and will be limited to the greatest extent possible to minimize impacts to the public.

The underground pump station is part of the new work in this work area of the dredging project. Demolition of the existing security fence and its footing was completed in early May. Excavation for the new wall subbase and foundation began at the north end and progressed around the building.

The underground pump station needs to be installed to continue the excavation for the new floodwall foundation. Construction of the new floodwall will begin once the helical piles are installed and the concrete footing is placed.
