Muddy River FRM project work progresses to Work Area #13 beginning March 10

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District announced today that dredging activities continue to progress on Phase 2 of the $36.5 million Muddy River Flood Risk Management project in Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts.Beginning March 10, 2021, work will progress to Work Area #13 in the vicinity of Fenway and Agassiz Road (at the Boston Fire Department building). Temporary construction fencing will be installed in Work Area #13 to prepare the area for mobilization of construction equipment. The existing walkway along the river will remain open for pedestrian and bicycle access until all fence material and detour signs are in place. Pedestrian and bicycle access around the work area will be provided for the duration of the project. 

Demolition of the existing security fence and its footing will begin mid- to late-March once the temporary construction fencing is installed. Work includes construction of a new floodwall and security fence around the Boston Fire Department building, as well as construction of a new underground pump station in the existing parking lot. Once the concrete wall is placed, granite façade will be installed on the wall in keeping with the historic nature of the Boston Fire Department building, the Duck House, and the surrounding landscape. Areas disturbed by the construction will be restored.
